old computer
Just wondering what other people have done with computers which are very old and they have no more use for ? The computer in question is not the tower type hard drive but one which is more like a book with a big bulky monitor on top of it too. I do not want to put in recycle centre until I know that any information on it has been destroyed first. Do I have to get this done professionally or can I do this myself I wonder. All replies much appreciated.
Many thanks Miss Lilac |

Computer Recycling
There is an Irish charity, Camara, who recycle computers for schools in Africa. They are based in Dublin but have drop off locations in Galway & Belfast and I imagine you would get more specific information on www.camara.ie.

Hi I am also looking for the same information. I am soon going to replace my old computer. I intend to recycle it but I want to erase personal information etc on it. Does anyone know how to do this without other than going to a professional? Julfren |

For erasing data, you can download and burn a CD-ROM, boot the computer with the CD in, and it will do the erasing.
There are a few options, I've used Darik's Boot And Nuke in the past, and it works great. http://www.dban.org/ |
